Cheshire Mediation offers trainings in a variety of mediation and conflict management skills. Our interactive trainings are all delivered by conflict management practitioners who can combine theory with real life applications.

Our training designs utilize:

  • Complete needs assessments with participants which tailors the design to the specific areas of interest of the participants
  • Examples from participants' lives to keep the topics relevant
  • Popular education methods that allow participants to reflect on their own experiences, integrate what they learn and stay engaged in their own learning

We offer trainings in the following topics:

    • Basic Mediation

Advanced Mediation

For those who want to learn more, our advanced mediation training teaches additional skills which cannot be covered in the basic mediation training. Topics include working with groups in conflict, intakes, and how to deal with impasse in mediation. Our experienced trainers, who are also practitioners, combine theory with real life experience to make this a great learning experience.

Let's Talk: How to Communicate Effectively in the Midst of Tension (one day)

This six-hour training helps participants look at how they can become more powerful in managing difficult conversations in their lives. It invites participants to look at their own conflict patterns and assess what works and what does not work. We explore concrete tools such as alternatives to blame, how assumptions form and how to work with them, getting to the real problem, and the barriers to accessing the tools we know work. This is a great training for workplaces and individuals who want to live life less affected by conflict.

Negotiation

Negotiation is a critical skill. Since a great percentage of a leader's and manager's time is spent dealing with conflict and negotiating with internal and external partners, the skills to build strong and lasting agreements are paramount. In this workshop you will learn a mutual gains theory to creating win/win outcomes. You will also receive the skills to help you build trust, prepare for negotiations better and think outside the box so that value can be increased for all parties involved.

Facilitating Great Meetings

Americans waste millions of dollars a year on unproductive meetings. This training will help your meetings become more efficient and productive. Taught in 12 hours, this workshop covers the role of the facilitator, agenda planning, how to manage difficult people, how to effectively use ground rules, process skills that give the facilitator an alternative to open discussion, and plenty of interactive exercises to practice. If you feel like you spend too much time in meetings, this training is for you.

Peer Mediation

This twelve hour training is designed to give students the basic tools to mediate disputes between their classmates. In addition, it gives them tools to help manage conflict effectively in their lives. If your school is thinking about starting a peer mediation program, call us. We have trained scores of youth in this process, and it works.

Parent-Youth Mediation

This eight-hour training is a follow up to our basic mediation training. It is designed for community members who want to volunteer their services to help resolve conflicts in the community. If you are interested in this, give us a call.

Peacemaking for Teenagers

Peacemaking: Conflict, Creativity and Community is an intenstive two-week high school summer elective course which addresses peacemaking at three levels: individual, community and international. Participants learn conflict resolution skills, explore ways to relax the mind and body and explore international issues. Circle process and consensus decision-making help develop a sense of community. There is a field trip geared to each level of peacemaking, and the course concludes with a service project. We are able to offer a variety of peacemaking trainings ranging from one day to two weeks. Please contact us to explore possibilities.

Advanced Conflict Resolution: Working It Out (three days)

This training expands on the basic conflict resolution training and invites participants to more deeply explore their conflict patterns. With two experienced instructors available for coaching, participants will be asked to apply the tools presented to make real changes in their lives. We will look at conflict triggers, how our habitual ways of thinking can be our own worst enemy, and how to change behavior we know does not serve us.
