Benefits of Peer Mediation and work in the schools:

1.  The peer mediators examine the conflict by hearing form each of the parties, and attempt to name their issues in such a way as to encourage the conflicting parties to work together toward a solution.

2.  Mediation empowers the students in disputes to take responsibility for both the conflict and its solution.

3.  Peer mediation strives to identify mutually acceptable solutions that take into account the nature of the disputants' relationship.

4.  Peer mediation empowers students to solve conflict by modeling conflict resolution techniques that will serve them, and others, for a lifetime.

"The peer mediation training was fun, meeting new people, and learning how to be a mediator. It was great and every day we had it I was looking forward to it." 6th grade student from Hinsdale Elementary School
