Elder-Care Mediation Services

The decline of an elder does not have to mean the decline of a family

We work with families who are experiencing stress and tension about issues concerning the elderly.

Our services help families:

  • Make decisions about both short and long-term care of elders.
  • Resolve disputes about inheritance.
  • Negotiate disputes between health-care providers and the families of elders.
  • Manage tensions and decisions about the use of life support systems
  • Make decisions about how to manage or liquidate the estate of elders.

As their mother grew older, a family with five siblings had very different ideas about how to care for her. Those who had been providing ongoing care resented the input of those who lived further away and had been less involved. At a one-day retreat Cheshire Mediation designed a process to help them better understand the past, and move into the future in a more unified manner.

Healing
Mediation allows families the opportunity to identify differences and work toward solutions that meet everyone’s needs, thus healing unresolved conflict. It prepares families to work together in the future.

Trust
Trust is built by creating a safe process for sharing feelings and developing realistic plans.

Flexibility
Mediation leaves the door open for compromise and further negotiation as circumstances change over time.

Collaboration
A collaborative approach to problem solving allows all family members the opportunity to meet and communicate until they reach a mutual understanding.
